Two people from two separate vehicles were killed following a head-on collision outside the Woodview Cemetery on Chris Hani Road in Cornubia this morning (Sunday).
At approximately 04:25 a member of Reaction Unit South Africa was on patrol in the area when he came across the collision involving a Nissan NP 200 bakkie and a VW Polo. A man at the back of the Nissan NP 200 bakkie and a back seat passenger from the VW Polo were killed. Both drivers were trapped and the jaws of life was used to free them from the mangled wreckage.
Six people from both vehicles sustained moderate to serious injuries in the collision. One person was flown to hospital by a specialized helicopter which landed at the scene. The road was closed to traffic while Emergency Services extricated and treated the injured.
Circumstances surrounding the collision has not been established at this stage.
