Body of a kidnapped baby found

POTCHEFSTROOM – A search conducted by police, about 50 community members and a local councillor for the kidnapped 15-month-old Mpho Kgoroyadira yesterday at an open field in extension 12, Jouberton, led to the gruesome discovery of her decomposed body, hidden underneath a rock.

According to information available at this stage, Mpho was allegedly kidnapped on Saturday, 01 February 2020. She was sleeping with her 22-year-old mother in a house in Extension 12, Jouberton at about 20:00. Her mother woke up and realised that there was a person in their house. The unknown suspect grabbed Mpho and fled the scene of the foot. The suspect was not seen after the incident and a kidnapping case was opened. Since the baby’s disappearance, police have been searching for her through various platforms, including Amber Alert. After the baby’s body was found, a case of murder is under investigation, no arrest has been made.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked the community of Jouberton for their support and assistance in searching for the missing child. He condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms and said the police will work hard in order to ensure that the perpetrator responsible for this senseless killing is put behind bars.
