Police investigate culpable homicide after fatal accident claims five lives

POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Nebo outside Groblersdal have opened a case of culpable homicide for investigation after five people died during a fatal accident that occurred in the early hours of today, 09th February 2020 at about 04:50.

It is alleged that a Toyota bakkie carrying eight occupants travelling from Groblersdal area to Jane Furse collided with a stationary truck at Glen Cowie Village just opposite St. Rita’s hospital. Five people from the bakkie died instantly whereas, two other people were seriously injured. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The only passenger from the truck escaped the accident unharmed.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that when the incident occurred, the driver of the truck had gone to look for help after a mechanical breakdown. The deceased are four males and one female and the process of identification is still unfolding.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide and the circumstances leading to the accident are unknown at this stage but Police investigations are still continuing.
