Suspect arrested for cable theft, another one arrested with a firearm

WESTERN CAPE – In an effort to clamp down on the theft of non-ferrous metal, members attached to the Rapid Rail Unit conducted an operation yesterday in Khayelitsha which resulted in the seizure of overhead PRASA cables valued at about R300 000-00.

The members searched a container in Site C and arrested the owner, a 41-year-old male for the possession of the suspected stolen property. Once charged, the suspect will make a court appearance in Khayelitsha to face the charge against him. Cable theft has a detrimental effect on the economy of our country and we urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour in this regard to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using our mobile application MYSAPS.

In an unrelated incident last night in Delft, members attached to the National Intervention Unit, deployed in the Western Cape for Operation Lockdown arrested a 25-year-old female suspect who was armed with a 9mm Norinco pistol and two rounds of ammunition. She will make a court appearance in Blue Downs once she has been charged.
