Chatsworth drug bust worth over R15 million

Police received info of drugs being transported mainly heroin and mandrax.

From the information received, a coloured male was said to be visiting the vicinity of the Sharks Tavern on road 701, Montford, Chatsworth.

Mort Tactical Support unit then took up observation of the said premises and thereafter noticed a coloured Male who fitted the description and the said vehicle approaching the vicinity of the Sharks Tavern.

Police then identified themselves to the Coloured male suspect and after conducting a search, found the suspect to be in possession of SEVEN HUNDRED (700) MANDRAX tablets.

The suspect was placed under arrest and informed of the charges against him.

The suspect then took police to other premises in Montford, Chatsworth. A consented search via both the suspect and his spouse was conducted.

This search resulted in the seizure of more narcotics, namely Mandrax Tablets and HEROIN.

Upon further investigations, it was established that the seizure consisted of the following :

THIRTY-SIX Kilograms of HEROIN Powder.
Six thousand and seventy-four ( 6074 ) MANDRAX Tablets.

The total street value of narcotics recovered is over R15 million.

Due to the Magnitude and value of the exhibits recovered, Detectives from the Durban
Organised Crime Unit and members from the Network and Tracing Unit were called onto the scene to assist.

Docket and exhibits handed over to Organised crime. Investigations are continuing.
