Eastern Cape: Two suspects nabbed in Worcester in the Western Cape for the murder of an elderly woman

Sterkspruit: The wheels of Justice continue to grind, as two suspects, both aged 38, were arrested on Tuesday, 24 March 2020 at Worcester in the Western Cape.

The latest suspects are part of the group that is allegedly involved in the brutal and cold-blooded killing of the 83-year-old grandmother in Sterkspruit two weeks ago who was accused of alleged witchcraft after the burial of a local man in the village. A task team of capable investigators who followed leads tracked them down beyond the borders of the Eastern Cape in the Western Cape.

The two arrests bring the number of suspects in the Murder case to eight (8), after the six that is already in police custody. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga described the strings of arrests as unprecedented and a clear mark of commitment in SAPS to carry out its mandate without fear or favour. “Organized crime and Vigilante activities have no place in a civilized country such as ours” General Ntshinga concluded.

The two suspects, a male and female, are expected in the Sterkspruit Regional court on Thursday, 26 March 2020 on charges relating to Murder, Attempted Murder, Arson, Assault and Malicious damage to property. More arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
