Burst geyser causes house fire in Southridge – KZN

A residence situated on the corner of Sew Drive and Umdloti Beach Road caught alight after a geyser in the ceiling burst this morning.

First Responder Ruebendra Reddy was dispatched to the property for activation. On arrival, he met with the caregiver of an 82-year-old female who stated that the power had suddenly gone off and assumed that there was an outage in the area. While conducting an inspection of the property Officer Reddy noticed smoke emitting from the roof.

He reported his findings to the Operations Center and additional support members from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to his location. The 82-year-old female who is unable to walk due to illness was carried out of the home by RUSA Members. With the use of a garden hose, Reaction Officers managed to extinguish the fire which was spreading in the ceiling.

No injuries were reported and damage to the residence was restricted to the wooden beams in the ceiling.
