Fake bank notes circulating and are being sold in Durban CBD

There are R100 fake banknotes (1st note) circulating and are being sold for R40 in Durban CBD in the vicinity of Commercial Street Home Affairs. The 2nd is a genuine note. Very difficult to spot the difference unless you hold both and pay attention to detail.

These notes are being used to pay on taxis and buses and to buy at Taverns. If you work or own a business that accepts cash, please be extra careful and alert and train your staff to be able to detect and identify fraudulent notes – and consider investing in a fraud note detection machine.
