Forensic social workers reaches out to young victims of Gender-Based Violence in Douglas.

In support of celebrating Youth Month, Forensic Social workers attached to the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit under the command of Colonel Erica Scheepers treated young victims of gender based violence and their families in Douglas today.

The group of social workers accompanied by members from the Kimberley FCS unit visited Douglas police station today, 28 June 2020, where they reached out to young boys between the ages of 5 and 10 years old who were of victims of sexual offences.

The team assembled at 11:00 in the boardroom at the Douglas police station where they interacted and engaged with the young victims and their parents.

They handed over care packs to the boy victims that was donated by the Matla A Bana Foundation as well as food parcels to the parents.

The main purpose of the event was to show solidarity with the victims and parents and to reassure them that they are not alone during this difficult time.

They were also reminded that both the victims and their families can rely on the forensic social workers to offer support during and after the conclusion of their cases. Both the victims and parents were grateful for the psychological and physical support offered to them.

Brig Nicky Mills, the Provincial Head of FCS in the Northern Cape indicated that the forensic social workers are there to support , assist and offer both psychological and physical services to all victims of gender-based violence. He also thanked the members for this initiative in visiting victims and reaching out to their families. These visits were conducted by FCS units throughout the province during June month in celebration of Youth Month.
