27-Year-old suspect and 14-year-old accomplice apprehended in Manenberg for robbery

This morning at approximately 09:30, members attached to the Manenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were conducting crime prevention duties in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg when they were alerted by the complainant of an armed robbery. It is alleged that two males, a 27-year-old and his 14-year-old accomplice were picked up by a taxi in Ruimte Road. Upon entering the vehicle, the 27-year-old suspect pulled out a firearm and threatened the passengers and the driver. After attempting to discharge the firearm inside the vehicle, he grabbed a cellular telephone that was on the dashboard and fled the scene along with his accomplice.

The driver of the vehicle alerted police members and pointed out the accomplice who was standing along Ruimte Road. Upon questioning the accomplice, he led members to a residential address in Irvine Street. They entered and searched the premises and found the suspect hiding under a bed. The stolen cellular telephone and a 9mm pistol with ammunition were discovered in the suspect’s possession.

The suspects were arrested on charges related to attempted murder, armed robbery, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Once charged, they will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
