A man arrested for drug peddling

NORTHERN CAPE – The vigilance of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit members led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man.

It alleged that on Sunday, 19 July 2020, the members spotted a suspicious vehicle and immediately stopped and searched it. Upon searching the vehicle, a plastic bag of khat drugs was found hidden under the seat.

The suspect was arrested and a search warrant was issued to search his residential place. Two more small packs of suspected Khat were found in his house together with an undisclosed amount of cash and six cellphones that the suspect could not account for.

The suspect is expected to appear before Kimberley Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of dealing in drugs.

On another incident, a shop was raided in New Park, Kimberley and one person was found buying cigarettes for R550-00. The shop was immediately searched and more cigarettes to the value of R10 000-00 were confiscated.

The 32-year-old man, owning the shop was arrested for contravention of the Disaster Management Act during the lockdown period.

Police investigations continue in both cases.
