Scrap yard employee falls off a moving bakkie on the R102 near Canelands – KZN

A man is in a critical condition after he fell off a moving bakkie while trying to prevent his cellphone from falling out of the vehicle on the southbound lane of the R102 near the Canelands intersection.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on the scene and found the individual lying on the right lane bleeding from his head. Medics from RUSA and Netcare 911 are currently stabilizing him on the scene.

It was established that the injured man was seated at the back of a Kia bakkie which was loaded with crates when he stood up to remove his cellphone from his pocket. While doing so the phone slipped from his hand and in an attempt to avoid it from falling out of the vehicle he lunged forward, lost his balance, and fell out of the bakkie which was traveling approx 60 kilometers per hour.

A specialized medical helicopter is expected to airlift the injured scrapyard employee to the hospital.
