Armed civilian shot dead in Cornubia

A man armed with two pistols has been shot dead outside the Cornubia Shopping Mall in KwaZulu-Natal a short while ago.

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was flagged down by a shopper near the Virgin Active Gym at the corner Allamanda and Tecoma Road in Cornubia and informed of a shooting in progress.

The Reaction Officer responded swiftly and found an unknown male bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound to his body. Two pistols were found tucked into his belt. Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and declared the man deceased upon arrival.

According to a witness, two armed suspects opened fire on the victim and fled in an awaiting vehicle. According to information received, the deceased was involved in a shooting in Blackburn. He was tracked down and shot by members of the community. This information has not been verified. A spent cartridge was recovered on the scene.

The man was not immediately identified.
