The Commission of Inquiry into Taxi Violence continues on 19 August 2020

The public hearings of the Commission of Inquiry into Taxi Violence in the Gauteng province will continue on
Wednesday, 19 August 2020 at 09:00.

The testimony will be presented by one of the Commission‘s investigators, a retired Lieutenant General – Mr. Vinesh Moonoo.

General Moonoo’s testimony will include, but not be limited to:
Audit assessment of 505 (Five Zero Five) active taxi industry related violence cases in the Gauteng for
the following period – April 2012 to May 2020;
Reflection on the nature of such cases, locality and pattern of conflict, violence and fatalities;
Indications whether these incidents are related to criminal activities or external influences and factors;
Progress made in relation to these investigations, including arrests and prosecutions; and
Whether the Police Investigations have been effective in curbing violence related to Taxi Industry in Gauteng.

The legal team is in the process of identifying and/or consulting with other witnesses who will appear before the
Commission over the next few weeks.
