Delivery vehicle robbed in Hazelmere

Two employees of a bread distribution company were hijacked and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash shortly after making a delivery in Hazelmere near Verulam.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to Redcliffe in the vicinity of the quarry after receiving reports of the robbery. On arrival Reaction Officers met with the driver and his assistant.

They claimed that shortly after making a delivery in Hazelmere they were stopped by an unknown vehicle. The driver approached them and made inquiries regarding the delivery of bread. Two armed men exited his vehicle and approached the Kia bakkie.

They got into the bakkie and forced the victim to drive them to a sugar cane field in a remote part of the area. The robbers then handed the driver’s assistant a hammer & chisel and instructed him to crack open the safe mounted in the vehicle.

After removing an undisclosed amount of cash the robbers demanded to be driven to Redcliffe. Once at their desired location the suspects got off and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victims were not injured.
