Escaped suspect re-arrested in Brindhaven

A suspect who escaped from Police custody was re-arrested in a bush between Fairview Drive and Croton Road in Brindhaven in a joint operation between Reaction Officers and Police a short while ago (Thursday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received information about the escape at 11:19. All available RUSA Members were deployed to High Street in Grange where a suspect matching the description was spotted.

The RUSA Robinson R44 helicopter took off a short while later to assist ground crew in the search after the suspect was spotted jumping over a boundary wall on Croton Road in Brindhaven.

The Pilot in command and his crew hovered above the bush where the suspect was seen hiding under dense vegetation. The SAPS K9 Unit entered the bush while the chopper flushed the suspect out of his hiding spot. The wanted man made a last dash through the bush but was intercepted by Officers.

The man was arrested yesterday by Reaction Officers in Oaklands after he broke into a vehicle on Amaan Circle. He has previously been arrested for crimes relating to house break-in and theft and served a 6-year sentence in Westville Prison.

He is currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
