Abalone poachers arrested

WESTERN CAPE – An intelligence-driven operation executed by joint forces comprising SAPS and DAFF led to the arrest of four suspects yesterday in Betty’s Bay on charges of abalone poaching.

Members of the Provincial Integrated Team partnered with Crime Intelligence and Sea Fisheries and intercepted a vehicle identified by intelligence as that of a poacher. The operation resulted in the seizure of 300 units of abalone valued at R65 000-00, diving equipment and a few undersized crayfish.

The suspects are due in court once they have been charged.
