Mob attacks robbery suspect in Verulam

A robbery suspect was injured after he was attacked by a mob on Todd Street in the Verulam CBD.

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was on patrol when he witnessed the suspect robbing a 50-year-old man of his cellphone. The Officer abandoned his Response Vehicle and tackled the suspect to the ground. During a scuffle, the robber broke free and attempted to flee but was confronted by the public who began assaulting him. Backup
Reaction Officers responded to the scene and placed the suspect under arrest.

The 31-year-old suspect is believed to be responsible for a spate of robberies that have occurred in the Verulam CBD.

He is currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
