Police officer applauded for his bravery in police chase

Yesterday a detective from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation was conducting investigation duties travelling on the M25 when he received information that a patrol vehicle was chasing a white VW Polo with no registration plates. The police officer joined the N2 south bound and noticed the same vehicle with five occupants and turned on his blue lights and siren in order to stop the vehicle.

A chase ensued and one of the occupants fired several shots towards the police. A shootout ensued forcing the suspects to make u turn and flee towards Queen Nandi Drive south bound. The officer with the assistance of Greenwood Park police and security companies continued chasing the suspects until they reach Greenwood Park where four suspects were arrested. One of the suspects attempted to bribe the police officers and was charged with bribery.

The four arrested suspects, aged between 25 and 28 years were charged with attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property, inconsiderate driving and bribery. They will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday. They are suspected to be linked to criminal cases in Durban North and Greenwood Park.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded the police officer for bravery and commended the support provided by surrounding police stations and security companies.
