Robbery suspect shot by an off-duty policeman in Phoenix

A suspect was shot by an off-duty policeman during a robbery on Industrial Park Drive in Phoenix.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene at approximately 17:52 and on arrival found Medics from KZN VIP Medical Services attending to the suspect. He had been shot in the thigh.

It was established that the victim was dropping off staff in the area. As he came to a stop at the robots at Bester Corner three suspects approached his Toyota Tazz. The suspect on the driver’s side drew a large dagger, switched off the vehicle, and removed the keys from the ignition.

The victim then attempted to fight off his attacker. An off-duty Metro Policeman who was in his personal vehicle witnessed the robbery in progress and fired three shots at the suspect. At least one round penetrated the robber’s right thigh. The suspect then collapsed to the ground while his accomplices fled on foot.

Medics stabilised the suspect on the scene before transporting him to the hospital by ambulance. The victims were not injured.
