Suspects arrested on firearm and drug related charges

WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to fight the spread of illegal firearms in the Mitchells Plain area have once again resulted in the discovery of a firearm and the subsequent arrest of a 34-year-old man, arrested on charges relating to possession of prohibited firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

On Monday, 26 October 2020, at about 09:45, Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit members were busy with crime prevention duties, when they received information about an illegal firearm at a premises in Megan Street, Tafelsig. When the members searched the premises, they found the suspect in possession of a homemade firearm, two 9mm rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge. He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.

In an unrelated incident also on Monday, 26 October 2020, Table View police reacted on information about a person dealing in illegal substances at an address in Parklands. This information led to a positive result and police confiscated a drug known as magic mushrooms and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 34-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in an illegal substance. He will be appearing in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 October 2020.

In Ravensmead, a 36-year-old suspect has been arrested on Monday, 26 October 2020 at about 17:05 in Azalia Avenue, Uitsig. Ravensmead when Crime Prevention Unit members followed up on information about a firearm at the premises.

When the members searched the premises they found the suspect in possession of a firearm with a magazine, dagga and mandrax tablets. The suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and drugs, and he will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once charged.
