Alleged CIT robbery and murder suspect to appear in court and outstanding suspects sought

GAUTENG – A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court for charges of murder, attempted murder, and cash-in-transit robbery on Monday, 16 November 2020.

An intelligence-driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Johannesburg together with the Gauteng Taxi Intervention Unit resulted in the apprehension of a suspect who was positively linked to a cash-in-transit robbery that was perpetrated a week ago in Protea Glen, Soweto.

It is alleged that a group of unknown men allegedly set alight a cash van following an armed robbery in Protea Glen where they shot and fatally wounded three people including a woman and security personnel, leaving two traffic officers injured.

The investigation team seized a Toyota Etios which was positively linked to a hijacking incident in Linden earlier this month. Investigation continues and outstanding suspects are being sought.
