Six suspects before court for R9.9 million fraud

NORTHERN CAPE – Six suspects, including the Project Manager from Robert Sobukwe Hospital aged between 35 and 51 were arrested this morning by the DPCI Serious Corruption Investigation team for alleged R9.9 million fraud.

It is alleged that in 2014, the Northern Cape Department of Health awarded contracts for renovations of hospitals in the Region. Those contracts were awarded to various business entities whose Directors were related.

Fraud occurred when the business entities that were related, cover quoted in ensuring that contracts were awarded to them in exclusion of competition.

These business entities also failed to disclose their interest and relationship with other related companies when they submitted their bid documents. The project manager alleged to have assisted these companies by sourcing quotations from them.

The Department suffered the financial prejudice estimated at of R9.9 Million as a result of their conduct.

All suspects are expected to appear before Kimberley Magistrate’s Court later today once they have been processed.
