Domestic worker blackmails homeowners in Durban

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is currently dealing with two cases of Blackmail perpetrated by two female domestic workers.

Reaction Officers were called out to homes in the Durban area after domestic workers in both incidents attempted to blackmail the homeowners if they were not paid a salary. The workers had their contract terminated earlier this year when South Africa went into Lockdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In separate cases, the woman contacted the homeowners requesting monies for school fees, Christmas Bonuses, and salaries for the year. When the female homeowners declined the request the woman threatened to call the husband and report affairs, visit by unknown men, and sexual activity. When no monies were paid, the domestic workers made contact with the woman’s partners and informed them that they had observed men entering their home and engage in sexual activities with their wives. Specific dates, times, and descriptions of the men were also provided.

A similar Modus Operandi has used in both cases. It could not be immediately confirmed if the domestic workers are known to each other.

No criminal cases were registered by the complainants.
