Drunk passenger blamed for a road crash in Verulam

The driver of a red Toyota Corolla and her passenger escaped injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in, veered off the road & climbed an embankment on the R102 between Verulam & Ottawa.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Center in Verulam & Phoenix received multiple calls from passing motorist at approx 23:05 reporting the accident.

On arrival Reaction Officers and Paramedics found the light motor vehicle (LMV) lying in the overgrown vegetation alongside the northbound lane.

The female driver of the vehicle informed Reaction Officers that she was travelling to Canelands with her male passenger who was heavily intoxicated. During a conversation pulled on the steering wheel causing her to lose control and climb the embankment.

No injuries were reported.
