Four more suspects arrested for the Durban solid waste tender amounting to R3.2 million

PRETORIA – Four suspects aged between 23 and 42 have been arrested this morning for the eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender amounting to R3.2 million.

Sole Director of Nhlanzi Catering and Events Pty (Ltd), an official of eThekwini Municipality, Deputy Head: SCM eThekwini, and his wife were arrested this morning following an investigation by the National Clean Audit Task Team into fraud and corruption within the eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender. It was revealed through forensic accounting that there was a transaction into Kloppers Attorneys’ trust account from Nhlanzi’s account for the amount of R100 000,00. Further investigation revealed that the entity, Nhlanzi Catering, and Events Pty (Ltd) was awarded fraudulent tenders from the Mayoral Parlour and that the Deputy Head: Supply Chain Management (SCM) approved the said awards. It is reported the Deputy Head: SCM received gratification of R100 000.

The Hawks National Clean Audit Task Team arrested the four this morning and they will subsequently appear in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court later today on charges of fraud and corruption.
