Drugs worth R300 000 confiscated in George

Concerted efforts to eradicate drug trafficking as well as the distribution of drugs into communities once again yielded positive results when police confiscated 6000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R300 000 in George.

On Saturday, 09 January 2020 at about 11:40 members attached to the Provincial Detectives Narcotics Section responded to information on a motorcycle that was en route from Cape Town with a consignment of drugs. The motorcyclist noticed the police members while entering George and turned in an attempt to evade arrest. A chase ensued and the vigilant members managed to stop the motorcycle at Knysna Road, George.

Upon searching the suspect the members found Mandrax tablets in his possession. The police confiscated the drugs and arrested the suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The 35-year-old suspect is still in custody and will appear in the George Magistrates’ court on Monday, 11 January 2020.
