Nine suspects due in court for the illegal possession of firearms

With our crime combatting strategy aimed at the illegal possession of firearms, members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team conducted a search operation last night in Nyanga. The operation in Chris Hani resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of two prohibited firearms, ammunition, and a Toyota Avanza which was hijacked earlier this month. The suspects aged between 20 and 22 are expected to make their court appearance in Athlone once they have been charged.

Meanwhile, the Flying Squad also apprehended four suspects yesterday in a vehicle in Bellville for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen in Bellville last year. The four suspects aged between 25 and 36 are scheduled to make a court appearance on Friday in Bellville.
