Police recover hijacked vehicle

SAPS Kwanobuhle members assisted by Anti-Gang Unit members recovered a vehicle that was allegedly hijacked on 19 January 2021 in the evening.

It is alleged that on 19 January 2021 at about 20:45, the complainant was busy closing his mini-market in Gumede Street in Kwanobuhle. As he was on his way to his car which was parked in front of his shop, he was approached by three males armed with a firearm. They demanded money. The complainant informed them that it was in the vehicle. The suspects then demanded the keys and his cellphone and drove off in his white Nissan NP200 bakkie. Two shots were fired in the air – no injuries sustained.

At about 00:35 this morning, SAPS Kwanobuhle members spotted the vehicle and chased after it. Backup was requested and AGU members responded. The vehicle drove into a fence of a house in Nomakhwezana Street. The suspects fled the scene.
