Last night at 23:30, detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigations, Crime Intelligence, National Intervention Unit and Metro police proceeded to Wentworth and Montclair to execute a search warrant and a warrant of arrest.
The team proceeded to Pirie Road in Wentworth where a search was conducted at the premises. Upon searching the house, police found a vehicle hidden in the garage with bullet holes and blood stains. No one was in the house and the vehicle was impounded by police for further investigation. The recovered vehicle is positively linked to a drive-by shooting that was perpetrated in Woodville Road in Wentworth this month.
It is alleged that on 17 January 2021, at 12:45, the victim was standing in Woodville Road with his friend when the suspect drove by them and started firing shots. No injuries were sustained. A case of attempted murder was opened at Wentworth SAPS.
The team proceeded to Atherstone Road in Montclair where a 42-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. The suspect was previously arrested for a case of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. On 26 October 2020 at 20:30, the police spotted a suspicious vehicle driving along Kenyon Hoden Road in Montclair. The said vehicle was stopped and upon searching the vehicle, the suspect was found in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect was placed under arrest and made several court appearances before the Durban Magistrate’s Court. When he failed to appear at court, a warrant for his arrest was issued by the court. He is appearing before the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the team for the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspect.
