Victim robbed of firearm during a hijacking in Maidstone

A 9mm pistol, a grey VW Polo with registration NJ 79000, and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen during a hijacking at a scrap metal business on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Maidstone, Tongaat.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the business at approximately 08:14 after receiving information of the robbery. On arrival, it was established that three men approached the owner as she drove onto the premises.

One suspect produced a firearm and instructed the victim to exit her car before robbing her of her firearm. Her handbag containing an undisclosed amount of cash was in the vehicle when the suspects sped off. No injuries were reported.
