Last night at 18:30, detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigations arrested an alleged gang member along Ansteys Beach in the Bluff. The 21-year-old suspect who is out on bail for conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, possession of firearm & ammunition was detained at Brighton Beach police station. He is appearing at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
Police received information about a vehicle with bullet holes at the back driving around the Bluff area and proceeded to the identified location. The said vehicle was stopped and a search was conducted. During the search, the suspect was found in illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition. He was immediately placed under arrest. It was established that the bullet holes at the back of the vehicle are from a prior police chase.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya applauded detectives for their continued fight against gang-related activities in the province.
