Bogus traffic official convicted for fraud

Thabiso Collens Lengoabala (55) appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 9 February 2021 where he was convicted and sentenced for fraud.

His sentence emanates from the incident which took place in March 2020, where he pretended to be a traffic official and informed a member of the public that he can arrange a driver’s license for him at a R4 000 fee.

An operation was conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team in Bethlehem after a tip-off was received. Lengoabala was arrested and he appeared in court on several occasions until his sentencing. He was sentenced to pay a R40 000 fine or 12 months direct imprisonment.
