Second suspect who escaped from police van appeared before court after being rearrested

The police in Mpumalanga would like to voice their appreciations to the public for their involvement in making sure that the second suspect who escaped from lawful custody in a police van near Ermelo Correctional Centre on 26 January 2021, is rearrested.

24-year-old Sabelo Nkosi was found last week Friday, 05 February 2021, from his hiding place at a certain house in Khayelisha Township near Ermelo. He was then apprehended and he subsequently appeared before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 08 January 2021, facing a charge of escaping from lawful custody adding to his initial charges.

Meanwhile, Njabulo Nsibande appeared before the same court last week Thursday, 04 February 2021, following his rearrest on 27 January 2021. The case of having escaped from lawful custody against Nkosi and Nsibande was postponed to 22 February 2021, for further investigation.

The duo also appeared before the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting at Breyten yesterday on their initial charges of murder, attempted murder, two counts of rape, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and their matter was posponed to Monday, 15 February 2021, for trial whilst both remain in custody.

The management of the police in the province is grateful to the community members who displayed continuous support in the fight against crime and for the excellent collaboration depicted between the community and the police through the SAPS’s Crime Intelligence members who relentlessly collected and coordinated information that led to the rearrest of the two suspects.

Police also made a call on 26 January 2021, through various platforms and the media came on board where they published pictures and information of the villains accordingly hence the desired outcome, therefore, the police would like to express gratitude to the media houses accordingly and respectively.
