Following a lengthy investigation by Bergville SAPS to curb business robbery cases, reported during December 2020 and last month, a suspect was finally nabbed.
A team of detectives was put in place and with the assistance of other local police stations, a wanted suspect was finally apprehended. A vehicle, suspected to be used by the suspects, was identified and on 30 January 2021, the vehicle was spotted traveling on the R616. The vehicle was intercepted and it was searched.
Upon searching the vehicle, the suspect was found in possession of two illegal firearms, two toy guns, and several sealed boxes with cellphones, airtime, and several watches. A cash amount of R10 310-00 was seized from the suspect. The suspect will be profiled to establish if he is linked to robbery cases reported in Bergville and surrounding areas. The suspect’s vehicle was also impounded for further investigation.
More arrests are imminent as the investigation unfolds. The 28-year-old suspect will appear before the Bergville Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of illegal possession of firearms and possession of the stolen property.
