Two arrested for possession of illegal firearms at Bizana

Two male suspects aged 34 and 42-year-old were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and other illegal weapons at Mbizana in the early hours of Wednesday,10 February 2021.

This arrest followed after members conducted an operation in search for illegal firearms, ammunition and any other prohibited substances. The operations were undertaken by the following units, Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Mount Ayliff together with Maluti K9, Public Order Police (POP), Information and Local Criminal Record Centre teams.

A 34 years old suspect was arrested and charged for possession of three (3) prohibited firearms and ammunition after he was found in possession of two (2) 9mm pistols, a shortgun, a pistol magazine with 12 9mm rounds, 116 R5 rounds, 30 Shotgun balls, a police pepper spray and a dagger knife.

The 42-year-old male suspects was charged for illegal possession of ammunition. Suspects are expected to appear at Bizana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 February 2021.

All firearms will be taken to a ballistic test to ascertain its earlier use in commission of crime.
