The swift response of members of the Provincial Integrated Team(PIT) to a business robbery in progress led to the arrest of two suspects and seizure of two unlicensed firearms in Goodwood on Saturday evening.
Reports from the scene indicate six armed suspects entered a shop on the corner of Merriman and Nelson Streets in Goodwood after 17:00 and demanded money from the owner, who raised alarm with the local security company. The company in turn alerted the police.
On arrival the PIT members with assistance of a SAPS dog searched the premises and found an armed suspect still inside the shop. A second armed suspect who fled on foot from the scene was caught a few streets away with the assistance of the SAPS dog.
Two firearms with several rounds of ammunition were seized. The suspects from Samora Machel, aged 36 and 31 have been charged with possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition as well as attempted business robbery. The search for four other suspects who fled in a vehicle continues.
The prompt response of the PIT and the security company are applauded as their efforts foiled an armed robbery.
