Employee arrested for housebreaking in Mt View

A 27-year-old Mapumalanga resident who was part-time employed at a home in Mt View – Verulam has been arrested after he broke into his employer’s home this afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a female residing on Bridgeford Drive seeking immediate assistance after returning home to find her employee inside the home. He had gained forced entry through a bathroom window.

Reaction Officers converged on the home and found the suspect inside the premises with the homeowner. Officers restrained the suspect and upon searching him found cash in Rand value, a US Dollar, and jewels in his possession. Keys to the cupboards were also found in his pockets.

Metro Police who observed additional Reaction Officers on route to the scene provided support. During an interview, the homeowners informed Law Enforcement that her husband and two-year-old child arrived home to find the bathroom window open. They rushed indoors to check if valuables were missing and a few minutes later, found the suspect lying on the floor attempting to conceal himself.

The suspect, a South African male was employed temporarily three years ago by the family. His duties included guarding the home, cleaning, and general maintenance. He informed Reaction Officers that he was off work today and arrived at his employee’s premises intending to stealing meat from the freezer (picture 13) but decided to search for other valuables once he had gained entry into the home.

The suspect was handed over to the South African Police Service and detained for housebreaking and theft.
