Five suspects aged between 27 and 34 are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 02 March 2021, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The accused’s court appearance stems from their apprehension on Sunday, 28 February 2021 at about 07:30 on the R511 (Thabazimbi) road at Assen near Brits. According to information available at this stage, Assen police were busy patrolling on the R511 road when they were alerted by the local security company about a suspicious Toyota Hilux double cab vehicle. A car chase ensued consequent to the spotting of the vehicle by members on the said road.
The vehicle with five occupants was eventually pulled off and upon searching it, two rifles and two shotguns were found attached to the chassis while a revolver and 27 live rounds together with a suspected stolen laptop were found in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in a house robbery at Thabazimbi in Limpopo.
