Local police’s effort to eradicate and put a dent into the local lucrative drug trade prior to the start of the weekend yielded positive results when they arrested a 22-year-old man who had been scheduled to appear in the Prins Albert Magistrates’ court today after he had been found in possession of a substantial amount of dagga, following an Intelligence-driven crime combatting operation by Vispol members of the Prins Albert police.
Members operationalized intelligence through obtaining a search warrant and descended on the suspect’s house situated in Tortelduif Street in the Central Karoo-town of Prins Albert. They ensued with a search of the premises and discovered the dagga with a weight of 5.69 kg that was destined for dissemination within the local community. The dagga was confiscated and the suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with Illegal Dealing in dagga.
Central Karoo Cluster Commander, Brig J Du Toit commended the members involved for their diligence and commitment to rid their streets from drugs that usually contribute to the commission of serious crimes over weekends, such as assaults, thefts, sexual offenses, and murders. He urged them to continue with similar operations so that the backbone of the local lucrative drug trade can be broken.
