Municipality property valued at seventy-five thousand recovered

A 31-year-old suspect is appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court today for possession of the stolen property.

On Monday, 29 March 2021 at about 08:30, the Plessislaer police officers conducted an operation with Eskom, Transnet, and Umsunduzi Municipality where they were checking compliance on the Second-Hand Goods. The team went to a scrap metal situated on Edendale crossings where they recovered water pipes and doors from electrical substations worth R75 000-00.

The property was positively identified as the property of Umsunduzi Municipality. The suspect was also issued with a fine of R1500-00 for contravention of the Second Hands Goods Act.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya praised the team for the recovery of the stolen property.
