Murder suspect sought in Verulam

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) are currently searching for an Indian male who shot and killed a man in Verulam, KZN a short while ago.

Residents from a block of flats along the R102 contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 18:01 reporting shots being fired in a bush opposite their property. One caller stated that an individual was lying on the road.

Reaction Officers and Paramedics responded to the southbound lane of the R102 between Verulam and Canelands and discovered the body of a man in the emergency lane. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and died at the scene.

According to witnesses, the deceased was seated with a group of men in a bush between the Verulam Taxi Rank and the R102 when the Indian male who was dressed in a black & cream striped shirt approached them. He began verbally abusing the deceased before producing a firearm.

The victim fled up a bank when the suspect fired two shots. One bullet struck the man in the head causing him to collapse on the road. The suspect allegedly walked up to the deceased, looked at his body before he fled on foot.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.
