Suspected gangster arrested for possession of firearm as well as police uniform in Tafelsig

Partnership policing led to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of presumed stolen property property in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.

On Thursday, 18 March 2021, at about 05:30, the Mitchells Plain Proactive team members were performing crime prevention duties when they received information about a person in possession of illegal firearms at a premises in Nursery Street, Tafelsig. Upon searching the premises, members found a firearm, with three rounds of ammunition. A further search also led to the discovery of

SAPS uniform items comprising of three shirts, two pairs of trousers and a bullet proof bag. A 30-year-old man was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of presumed stolen property. He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged.

In an unrelated matter on 18 March 2021, at about 05:50, members of Ravensmead Crime Prevention Unit were doing patrols around Uitsig area, when they spotted a man acting suspiciously.

The members stopped to search him and he started running. A chase ensued, the members cornered and searched him. They found him to be in possession of a firearm with a firearm. The 19-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Both the firearms, confiscated in these incidents, will be subjected to ballistic testing in order to determine if they were used during previous reported firearms related offences.

In Harare, police have stepped on the pedals in their endeavours to eradicate the drug trade in the area of Harare. On Thursday morning, 18 March 2021, at approximately 09:00, police members descended on an address that is known for selling dagga. On arrival at the Endlovini informal settlement, Khayelitsha, members found 43 packets of dagga and arrested the owner of the house.

Further information led them to a stand that was supposed to sell traditional herbs where they discovered other 290 packets of dagga and one suspect was arrested. In a separate incident police searched another shack also in Endlovini and discovered a packet of tik that weighed 30 grams. As they were on route to the police station to process the suspects, they searched an unknown male in the street and found a packet of tik in his possession.

All four suspects aged between 21and 41 were charged for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. They are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police are urging the members of the community to keep sharing information with the police about any illegal activities that they witness in their communities.
