Suspects arrested in Delft on a variety of charges, one arrested in Mitchells Plain with a firearm

Police interventions in Delft proved effective when members clamped down on lawlessness and arrested a number of suspects for the various offences.

Yesterday at about 16:30, members of Public Order Policing were conducting stop and search duties in Blikkiesdorp when they stopped a vehicle and searched it. The search was successful and a 25-year-old male from Bellville was arrested for the possession of 108 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes.

In a separate incident on the same day at 19:00, members of POPS received information of suspects that are in possession of ammunition at the long-distance taxi rank in Main Road, Delft South. Upon their arrival at the taxi rank, they searched the rank and found four suspects, aged between 25 and 42 in possession of 16 rounds of ammunition. All four were arrested.

In another separate incident, a 38-year-old male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. POPS members were busy executing patrols and stop and search in Delft South when they received information that an occupant of a vehicle was in possession of a firearm without a license. Upon their arrival in Delft Main Road, they spotted the vehicle, and when the suspect saw the marked police vehicle he threw the firearm on the ground and fled. A chase ensued and the suspect of Khayelitsha was arrested after the members found a pistol with nine rounds of ammunition.

This morning at approximately 00:00 a 29-year-old suspect was found in possession of an imitation firearm. The suspect attempted to bribe the police officers to let him go without being charged. The suspect was detained for the possession of an imitation firearm and bribery.

At approximately 07:00 this morning two suspects aged 28 and 44 were arrested after they were found in possession of electric cables which were suspected to be stolen. The suspects faced charges of possession of the presumably stolen property.

In Mitchells Plain, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday morning by members of Mitchells Plain Organized Crime Team in Muurbal Street, Beacon Valley when he was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and six rounds of ammunition.
