Teenager Kidnapped And Held Hostage in Verulam – KZN

A 16 year old female was allegedly accosted by two men who forced her to accompany them to a building where she was held captive for several hours yesterday (Friday).

While on patrol in the Verulam CBD last night, a member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) noticed the girl crying while walking in the direction of a supermarket on Moss Street. The Reaction Officer stopped and interviewed the teenager who stated that she was accosted by two men outside the Verulam Library on Groom Street at approximately 07:50 after she decided not to go directly to school but rather complete an assignment.

She went on to explain that one of the men produced a firearm and instructed her to walk quietly and not draw any attention to them. The second suspect allegedly held onto her belt to prevent her from escaping. The suspects led her along the railway line before they covered her head with a beanie preventing her from seeing where she was being taken to.

She was then forced into a room consisting of only a couch and no windows. The suspects stole her school bag and R30 in cash before they locked her in the room. She allegedly screamed for help however received no assistance. After several hours one of the suspects returned and attempted to rape her when she ran out of the room towards the Verulam CBD. Two buttons on her school uniform and her belt was missing.

Reaction Officers contacted her family in Ndwedwe, KZN at approximately 18:44 and informed them of the allegations. He mother arrived on scene a short while later. She was transported the to the location where she was allegedly held captive however the property could not be located.

Her mother opted to transport her to the Verulam SAPS to register a criminal case.
