Three suspects disarmed during recent SAPS interventions

The Western Cape’s focus to significantly reduce the number of firearms in the wrong hands in the province has led to the arrest of three suspects during separate police interventions in Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Bonteheuwel.

During the early hours of this morning Gugulethu police arrested a 26-year-old suspect who was caught in possession with an unlicensed 9mm pistol. It is suspected that the suspect was about to rob a bread delivery truck before he was apprehended, as he was approaching the vehicle under suspicious circumstances when he was spotted.

Last night members of the Provincial Integrated Team were pursued information of an armed suspect in an Audi and apprehend him in Khayelitsha following a brief high speed pursuit. The 36-year-old man was found in possession of a prohibited 9mm pistol and ammunition.

In Bonteheuwel members of the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Unit reacted to the sound of gunshots last night. Their investigation in the area resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old male who had a 9mm pistol in his possession.

All the suspects are scheduled to make their respective court appearances in Athlone, Khayelitsha and Bishop Lavis once they have been charged.
