Boy bitten by puff adder at 3 pools along the Drak Gardens Road, Underberg

On the 2nd of April At 10:40am, #UEMS paramedics received a call from a local stating that a young boy had been bitten by a snake at 3 pools along the Drak Gardens Road.

#A01 mobilized to the scene and met the family on route. On assessment, the 15 year old male had sustained a snake bite to the left knee. As per the patient and father, they believed it was a Puff Adder. On closer inspection, the signs indicated that it was in fact a puff adder bite.
The patient was stabilized by UEMS paramedics as well as Dr Alan Howard and transported to a Pietermaritzburg hospital for further specialized treatment.
On arrival at the Pietermaritzburg hospital, a surgeon, doctors and nurses were waiting for us. The patient immediately received 8 ampules of Anti-Venom and will be kept in ICU for observation the next couple of days!
A huge thank you to Dr Alan Howard, The Staff at Life Hilton Hospital and Garth Patterson for your assistance.
And to our very Brave patient, our thoughts and prayers are with you that you make a quick recovery!
