Integrated efforts leads to arrest of eight people following a post office robbery

The acting Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Major General Solly Lesia commended the sterling multi-disciplinary approach by various stakeholders that has led to the arrest of eight suspects and the subsequent recovery of firearms and stolen cash shortly after the commission of the crime.

On Tuesday, 06 April 2021, at about 17:30, the police in Clocolan received a complaint of a robbery that had just been committed at a post office where an undisclosed amount was robbed.

It is alleged by the 49-year-old of female complainant that she had just knocked off duty with five colleagues and was closing doors of the Post Office at Andries Pretorious Street when they were accosted by five armed men.

The armed men had apparently gained entrance through the back door. They pointed them with firearms and ordered them to give all the money and the post office keys. The suspects then took an undisclosed amount of money and keys before fleeing the scene with the complainant’s Ford Eco Sport.

Neighboring Police Stations, farmers, K9 unit, and Crime Prevention Unit members were activated which resulted in the swift arrest of eight suspects in Ficksburg.

A total of three pistols, cash, all the Post office keys, and the complainant’s vehicle were recovered.

The arrested suspects will appear in Clocolan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 April 2021, on charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
