Security officer murdered in Verulam

A Security Officer working the night shift at a block manufacturing business in Verulam, KZN was murdered during a robbery.

An employee of the business who opened up this morning (Friday) located the male lying in a prone position near the change rooms. His ankles and knees were bound with pieces of materiel cut from overalls. His hands were tied behind his back and an overall coat was used to gag him.

The employee contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 07:26 requesting medical assistance for the Security Officer. Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found that the man had been strangled and assaulted. He was pronounced deceased.

The motive for the murder is believed to be robbery as batteries from two Hysters and cables from a welding machine were stolen.
