Seven suspects arrested after break in at a retail chain store in Hout Bay

On Thursday, 08 April 2021, at 23:15, two armed suspects held guards at a shopping centre in Hout Bay at gunpoint, while five other suspects broke the glass doors of a retail chain store to gain entry. The suspects broke the glass panels of the cabinets inside the shop and took bottles of perfume and men’s cologne and packed it in big bags.

The control room monitored the cameras and requested assistance where after members of mall security and different security companies reacted swiftly and apprehended three suspects who attempted to flee the scene on foot and in a Quantum vehicle with fake number plates. A shootout ensued between the suspects and the security officers and another two suspects were apprehended by the security officers.

The members of SAPS K9 Unit was called, which led to another two arrests and the recovery of a firearm of which the serial number of the firearm was filed off and three rounds of ammunition. House breaking implements, cellphones and stolen property that were recovered on the scene and the Quantum were handed in as evidence.

The seven suspects aged between 29 and 40 will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s court on Monday, 12 April 2021 on charges of break-in of business premises, possession of prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition and pointing of firearm.

In an unrelated matter on Thursday, 08 April 2021 at 12:15, Kraaifontein SAPS members arrested two known gang members for a double murder in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein.

The suspects aged 18 and 27 was traced to Klipbok Street, Scottsdene and arrested for the murder after they chased and fatally shot two males aged 19 and 27 in Rustic Street, Kraaifontein on

Thursday, 8 April 2021 at around 10:25. The victims died at the scene of the shooting. The suspects fled the scene of the crime.

The suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Regional Court once charged. Investigations are continuing to recover the firearm used to commit the murder.
